When you relax and enjoy this beautiful alpine getaway you will be contributing to the conservation of the Maunga (mountain) and the Ngati Ruanui people. Explore native walks through the Goblin Forest, Dawson Falls and many of the tracks and trails throughout Egmont National Park while immersing yourself in the culture and history of the beautiful Mount Taranaki.
Please note: We are closed on Monday and Tuesday. For guests staying Sunday night, the option for breakfast Monday morning is continental breakfast taken to the room. If you have any questions, please contact us.

Welcome to the Ngati Ruanui Stratford Mountain House situated on Maunga Taranaki (Mount Taranaki), which represents the most sacred of ancestors to Ngati Ruanui.
By having ownership of the Stratford Mountain House, we are able extend to all visitors our manaakitanga (hospitality) and provide a unique experience, offering an opportunity to engage with our native people and land.
We provide many levels of hospitality to the community such as the Mountain Café, Award Winning Licensed Mountain Restaurant and Mountain Bar as well as luxurious and elegant alpine accommodation. The Stratford Mountain House is also great place for an intimate wedding, conferences or functions. Within walking distance of the Mountain House you can enjoy easy grade walking tracks where you can experience alpine flora and bird life of Mount Taranaki.

We stopped at the Mountain House for lunch after a drive up to the plateau. I was served by a fellow Cantabrian who was very polite and helpful. The meal itself was more than I had expected and enjoyed very much. (More like two meals in one.) We plan to return in the winter.

We had a lovely big room with easy access for me with a mobility disability. Staff were very friendly and made us welcome. the restaurant onsite served us amazing meals.
